March 2024 - $848,351 +$31,485 (+3.9%)

Skyrocketing interest rates through most of 2022 and 2023 put much-needed pressure on the housing market after home prices hit record highs nationwide. Rising mortgage rates have caused home values to stabilize or decline. Even so, many economists disagree about whether home prices will continue to dip throughout 2024. The housing market and general economy are fragile and volatile like never before. 

With unstable economic factors, many people are hesitant to make significant changes in their lives at this time, which has reduced the nation’s overall housing supply. Tight inventory has kept prices from dropping substantially, making homes unaffordable for many, especially first-time homebuyers.

Yet, even though home prices remain high year-over-year (YOY), they’re not as eye-popping as they were in early 2022. But how far home prices dip in 2024 will likely depend on where how high mortgage rates go, inflation, and unemployment. With all that being said, some areas have still increased modest increases in home values in 2024.
